Game Changers: Patti Penny

In 1988, Patti Penny founded Penmac Staffing Services Inc., and since then, the company has removed hurdles that keep people out of the work force. Penmac has grown to nearly 130 in-house employees, providing businesses with temporary and long-term staffing placements through 27 offices in seven states. Providing human resources functions such as interviews, drug screening and employee orientation, Penmac generates as many as 29,000 W-2 forms for associates annually and in 2010 posted revenues of $77 million. Throughout the company’s history, Penny’s leadership, vision, work ethic and community support have earned accolades locally and beyond. In 2009, Penny became the first woman to receive Springfield Business Journal’s Lifetime Achievement in Business honor. In 2010, she received a national Stevie Award for Women in Business. Other awards she’s netted include an honorary doctorate in public affairs from Missouri State University and the Missourian Award, which she received in 2006.
