On New Year’s Day, the oldest baby boomers began turning 65, and for the next 18 years, a member of the baby boom generation – the 79 million Americans born between 1946 and 1964 – will reach that age every eight seconds. As a matter of fact, one in five Americans will be over age 65 by 2050.
That’s where The Gardens Assisted & Independent Living comes in. Part of Bethesda Senior Living Communities, The Gardens offers active seniors the freedom and choice they currently

The Gardens is a continuing care retirement community with a campus that includes independent living patio homes and apartments, assisted living apartments, and memory care apartments. “We are as close to a continuum of care as you can possibly get,” Executive Director Andrew McCormick says. “Because of that, people see us as a long term option.”
Bethesda is known for their focus on service and meeting the needs of the aging population. While the roots of who they are and why they started haven’t changed, their mission and the way they reach out to the communities and families they serve has.
As a matter of fact, McCormick was part of a President’s Advisory Group in 2010, and helped reshape the company’s identity and mission statement, while holding true to their core values and principles. “Our mission to serve seniors by enriching their physical, emotional, and spiritual health has been, and will continue to be our focus.”
Another way that The Gardens has embraced service is by reaching out and actively engaging their resident’s families. Although their company website lists general activities, day-to-day events can be found on Facebook.
“It’s how we keep in touch. It’s the family members that want pictures of our events, and want to know what’s going on. It’s helpful for them,” McCormick says. “It’s a way for us to further serve our community members and keep them in the loop on what’s happening.”
Choosing the right place to live out the golden years can make all the difference for an individual’s physical, emotional, and social well being.
