No. 14 Springfield-Branson National Airport Expansion

Posted online
Construction on the $119 midfield terminal at the Springfield-Branson National Airport began May 17, 2006, and it opened nearly three years later, on May 6, 2009. When it opened the Midfield terminal became the third terminal in the airport’s history. The second, which served for 19 years, is being leased to tenants such as Missouri National Guard and Expedia Inc.

The midfield terminal comprises 130,000 square feet of public space and another 100,000 square feet of support space. The main impetus for the new terminal was customer convenience, as the facility puts everything on one level, eliminating the need for elevators and escalators. Security screenings also can be handled at a single checkpoint with multiple lanes. Airport officials have credited the terminal with helping to fuel passenger growth during the economic downturn.

The terminal is one of five major capital improvements at the airport since 2006. A $4.5 million fuel farm and a $4.5 million airport fire station also opened in 2009, and a $14.8 million taxiway “whiskey” is set to open in the fall.
