HBA conference to address housing struggles

Posted online
The Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield hopes to rejuvenate builders by providing information about the local industry.

HBA is the host for the 2010 Ozarks Regional Housing & Construction Conference, scheduled for May 11 at the Ramada Oasis Convention Center. The objective of the conference, according to the HBA, is to "provide the private and public sectors with accurate information ... in a way that helps our region revitalize this important segment of our economy."

The keynote speaker is Edsel Charles, founder and chairman of the board for Tennessee-based market research company MarketGraphics Research Inc. Before founding the company in 1988, Charles built more than $100 million worth of single-family homes in the late 1970s and 1980s.

HBA has been working with MarketGraphics since 2008 to provide updated demographic and market information about the Springfield region to area builders.

The conference agenda also features discussions on the existing housing market, working with real estate agents and lenders, rehabilitating distressed properties and meeting infrastructure needs.

More information about the conference is available at the HBA Web site.

The most recent information from MarketGraphics, reported in September, showed that about twice as many homes were being sold as were being built, putting the five-county region on target to start rebuilding demand for new homes last quarter.

The city of Springfield had 16 building permits for new residential buildings on file for March, compared to 15 in March 2009.[[In-content Ad]]
