Springfield stations equal lowest gas prices in state

Posted online
Gas was selling for $1.88 per gallon this morning at three Springfield filling stations, tying other stations statewide for the lowest gas price in Missouri.

In Springfield, the price was available at both Sam’s Club stores, as well as the Shell station at 1455 E. Independence St. The $1.88 price point also could be found at stations in Independence and Kansas City, according to GasBuddy.com’s MissouriGasPrices.com.

Prices elsewhere in the Queen City ranged from $1.89 to $1.93 per gallon.

Missouri ranked No. 2 on GasBuddy’s list of the lowest gas averages in the nation this morning, behind only neighboring Oklahoma.

During the week ended Dec. 21, Missouri’s average fell 12.1 cents to $2.11 per gallon. By this morning, prices had dropped further to a $2.06 per gallon average.

The national average dropped 10.8 cents during the past week to $2.42 per gallon, according to a GasBuddy news release.

Missouri’s Dec. 21 average represented a 50.3-cent decrease from the same day last month and a 77.1-cent decrease from a year ago. The national average decreased 41.1 cents during the past month and 80.4 cents during the past year.

“As Americans take to the road for Christmas travel, they've all been given a gift that keeps on giving: falling gas prices,” said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst with GasBuddy, in the release. “Americans are saving over $13 million an hour versus gas prices a year ago - adding up to over $315 million every day.”

DeHaan suggested the declines may level out with oil prices holding in the mid-$50s per barrel.

As of 9:29 a.m., West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $55.86 per barrel, compared to $59.92 a week ago. Light sweet crude oil futures for February were trading at $55.86 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.[[In-content Ad]]
