Springfield lodging, airport traffic on the rise

The latest data from the Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau show tourism activity in the Queen City continues to rise.

Hotel stats
During August, the Springfield lodging industry brought in over $9 million in room sales, a 4.2 percent increase over $8.7 million room sales in the same month of 2013.

Including August sales, year-to-date room sales across the Queen City improved 6.3 percent to $44.7 million from $42.1 million in the same eight-month period a year earlier, according to the CVB data released Oct. 17.

The hotel occupancy rate rose to 68.7 percent in August after registering at 64.6 percent in the same month of 2013. The year-to-date occupancy rate through August was 59.9 percent, up from 54.1 percent in 2013.

Room demand hit 118,407 in August, bringing the year-to-date figure to 604,695. However, room supply was down to 172,298 in August and 1 million for the year, according to the data.

Flight report
During August, 74,294 people flew in and out of Springfield-Branson National Airport, up from 66,191 last year. SGF has experienced an increase in enplanements and deplanements every month this year compared to the same month a year earlier, according to the CVB.

Through August, air traffic rose to 566,313, up from 440,767 in the same time period last year.[[In-content Ad]]
