Local gas prices remain below $3 as state prices rise

While Missouri's gas price average rose 1.2 cents during the past week to $3.13 per gallon yesterday, several filling stations in Republic and Springfield were selling gas below $3 per gallon, the least expensive in the state.

According to GasBuddy.com's survey of 3,940 filling stations in Missouri, statewide prices overall still are down 10.2 cents from a month ago and 4.5 cents from a year ago. The national average, which rose 1.2 cents during the past week to $3.34 per gallon on Sept. 28, has decreased 8.5 cents during the past month and 8.6 cents during the past year, according to a news release.

Five Republic stations were selling gas at $2.92 per gallon this morning, the lowest prices in the state. The Springfield Sam's Club stores at 745 W. El Camino Alto Drive and 3660 E. Sunshine St. priced gas at $2.93 per gallon, while prices elsewhere in the Queen City ranged from $3.05 per gallon to $3.09 per gallon, according to MissouriGasPrices.com.

Missouri had the third-lowest gas price average in the nation this morning, topped by South Carolina, at $3.08 per gallon, and Mississippi, at $3.09 per gallon. According to GasBuddy's list of gas averages in the nation, Hawaii bottomed out the list with an average of $4.21 per gallon.

West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $93.54 per barrel as of 9:07 a.m. Light sweet crude oil futures for November were trading at $93.24 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.[[In-content Ad]]
