Springfield sets two lodging industry records

Posted online
The Springfield Convention & Visitors Bureau last week released city lodging industry data through April, breaking records in two categories.

At $80.75, the average daily room rate during the month set an all-time high and also was 10.6 percent higher than the same month in 2014. Through April, the year-to-date rate averaged $77.71, a 7.3 percent boost from a year earlier, according to the CVB’s July newsletter.

Room sales came to $8.7 million in April - a 17.7 percent increase from a year ago - and to $29.9 million for the year - a 10.3 percent jump.

The second record was set in room demand, which grew by 6.4 percent to 108,164 in April compared to a year earlier. Year-to-date room demand climbed by 2.9 percent to 385,057. Of those rooms, 62.5 percent were occupied in April, up from 61 percent last year. The average occupancy rate through April improved to 56.1 percent from 55.8 percent, according to the CVB.

Airport demand
Through May, passenger traffic at Springfield-Branson National Airport jumped 8.2 percent to 81,623 passengers from 75,452 in the same month of 2014, according to the CVB’s newsletter.

Traffic, aka enplanements and deplanements, has increased each month this, except February.

Through May, year-to-date traffic moved up 3.7 percent to 339,520, according to the CVB.

Last week, the Springfield airport announced American Airlines would offer flights to and from Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina starting Nov. 5, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.[[In-content Ad]]
