After interviewing five candidates yesterday, Springfield City Council selected Mexican Villa Food Products Inc. Chief Operating Officer and Treasurer Phyllis Ferguson to fill its vacant Zone 1 seat.
A 38-year Springfield resident, Ferguson succeeds Jeff Seifried, who resigned from council to take the CEO post at the Branson/Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau. Ferguson beat out competitors Brett Esch, quality analyst at JPMorgan Chase & Co.; Joseph Hoffman, former U.S. Army officer in logistics, finance and operations; Brittany Hopp, partner at York & Hopp CPAs; and Eric Wood, retired U.S. Army senior maintenance supervisor.
As the Zone 1 council member, Ferguson will be charged with representing the northwest quadrant of Springfield, according to a news release.
She joins a fresh slate of council faces, who were voted in during the April 7 election: Justin Burnett, Kristi Fulnecky, Ken McClure and Mike Schilling. The
other members are Mayor Bob Stephens - who was re-elected - Craig Hosmer, Craig Fishel and Jan Fisk.
Ferguson’s seat expires in 2017.
A current member of the Springfield-Greene County Park Board, Ferguson also has served on the city’s Planning & Zoning Commission, Commercial Street task force and sign ordinance review task force. Other civic work includes positions with the Neighborhood Advisory Council, Woodland Heights Neighborhood Association, Moon City Creative District, Court Appointed Special Advocates and Missouri Preservation, according to the release.[[In-content Ad]]
