SPS fills two director roles

Posted online
Springfield Public Schools hired two executives to start this summer.

Effective July 1, Phyllis Wolfram will serve as executive director of special programs and Randy Stange will start as athletic director. Both positions need to be approved by the SPS Board of Education during its March 3 meeting, according to a news release.

Wolfram, who has worked at Ozark School District the past eight years as executive director of special services, is returning to SPS for the newly created position, said SPS spokeswoman Pam Bodine. While at SPS 1993-2007, Wolfram worked for the district’s special education department and was director of special and compensatory programs during her last year.

As executive director of special program, Wolfram is charged with overseeing special services, gifted education, federal programs, early childhood, compliance and English-language learner services. She’ll be paid an annual salary of $126,861, the release said.

Stange succeeds Mark Fisher, who has held the athletic director role since 2003 and will start July 1 as director of athletics for Drury University, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

The 18-year athletic director for Hutchinson Community College in Kansas, Stange will be paid $110,439 annually, according to the release.

Stange - who was an assistance basketball coach at Missouri State University 1987-1992 - is charged with leading an SPS athletic department with more than 40 employees and 300 athletes, student athletic training staff, cheerleaders and the dance team. He’ll also lead department fundraising.[[In-content Ad]]
