2010 40 Under 40: Michelle Clifton

Posted online
Michelle Clifton juggles an active career and family, yet always manages to have something left of herself to give to others in need.

Clifton and her husband, Sam, are co-owners of Millstone Homes LLC in Nixa, where Michelle’s background in design and real estate is put to constant use. The Cliftons have received recognition on multiple occasions for constructing 417 Magazine’s “Home of the Year.”

“Our homes are our reputation and the reputations of all those involved in the process of building them,” Michelle Clifton says. “If we are successful, others will be successful also.”

The Cliftons and Millstone Homes were honored to be asked by ABC’s “Extreme Makeover Home Edition” to design and build a home for an Ash Grove family last summer. Michelle Clifton was instrumental in securing countless donations of time, money and goods to complete the project, which was finished in less than 106 hours with the help of more than 1,500 volunteers.

In 2008, Michelle Clifton added another business endeavor to her portfolio with Events In Time, a medical events planning company that does business worldwide. She provides the entire range of event services, from contract negotiations to final event planning and oversight for Medavera Inc.

Clifton says owning her own businesses has given her the flexibility she needs for a balanced family life as the mother of three.

“Working as a team, my family pulls together to support each other,” she says. “The influence a mother has on her children is far-reaching, and these years cannot be recaptured. So, achieving a healthy balance between my personal career goals and meeting my family’s needs has been my proudest accomplishment to date.”

In keeping with her desire to be active and influential in the lives of her children, much of the volunteer work Clifton does in the community centers around their activities. She has taken leadership roles in PTA, as a Girl Scout troop leader, soccer coach, Parents as Teachers and the vacation Bible school and day camp at her church.

She is active with the Home Builders Association of Greater Springfield, including serving as a founding board member of the HBA Charitable Foundation, which provides scholarships and helps orchestrate the St. Jude’s Home Giveaway. Her community involvement also includes serving as a KTTS Christmas Crusade Volunteer Leader.

“I love what I do, and I love helping people,” she says. “My hope is that my genuine enthusiasm for all I do will echo through every project that I tackle and every cause that I support. It is a balancing act, but one that I wholeheartedly embrace.”[[In-content Ad]]
