While the state's price per gallon is lower than the national average, Missouri's gas prices are 22.3 cents per gallon higher than one year ago, according to a Sept. 7 MissouriGasPrices.com news release.
The Sept. 6 average Missouri gas price was $2.49 a gallon, a 1 cent per gallon increase during the week. The average is 13.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, the release said.
The current lowest Springfield gas prices, $2.39 a gallon, can be found at Sam's Club, 745 W. El Camino Alto St. Before the site updated the morning of Sept. 7, the location had the lowest gas prices in the state at $2.36 a gallon.
Comparatively, the Sept. 6 national average was $2.68 a gallon, 0.2 cents per gallon less than a week ago. The national average decreased 9.3 cents per gallon during the month and is 11.4 cents per gallon higher than a year ago, according to the release.
Parent site GasBuddy.com Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan said he predicts gas prices to fall in the next four to eight weeks.
"With gasoline supply closing the summer driving season out at the highest levels since records began in 1990, there will be significant pressure for prices to fall, especially if hurricane season doesn't make a large impact on high supply numbers," DeHaan said in the release. "Combine those high supply numbers with typically weak autumn gasoline demand numbers, and fundamentals easily merit lower gasoline prices than we're currently seeing."[[In-content Ad]]
