Altec to open third Springfield location

Posted online
On the heels of being named to the Inc. magazine Inc. 5000 ranking of businesses, computer hardware company Altec Solutions Group plans to open a third Springfield location.

"We just signed an agreement to open up our third Springfield location and it will be open in the next 30 days,” said Altec owner Michael Van Matre.

The fourth annual list of 5,000 privately held U.S. businesses, released Aug. 24, ranks companies according to three-year percentage revenue growth and is published in the magazine's September issue.

Altec was ranked No. 3,509 on the list, with 2006-09 revenue growth of 50 percent. The firm recorded $2 million in 2009 revenue.

The third location will be at 2939 E. Battlefield Road next to Metropolitan Grill in the Regency Center, which is owned by Magers Enterprises II LP.

Metropolitan Grill had occupied the space as an office, said Shannon Handwerker, property manager for Magers Enterprises. Other tenants in the fully occupied 15,000-square-foot shopping center include Pizza Hut and Smoothie King.

Van Matre signed a three-year lease with an option for five years. Neither Van Matre nor Handwerker would disclose terms of the lease.

"We will be hiring more people,” Van Matre said. “We were actually going to announce the news a little bit later. It’s perfect timing on the heels of the recognition of this award.”

Van Matre also said plans to open two additional stores within the next 18 months are in the works.

"A very successful friend of mine, when I opened my second store, said ‘Why stop there? Why not open 20 stores, or 200 stores?,’” Van Matre said.

He added that franchising his PC Medics service department also is being discussed.

"I believe we have the infrastructure in place involving working hard to where we can set that in motion. Before you franchise, you have to prove to your audience that you yourself are successful,” Van Matre said. “We’re taking this one step at a time, but now we’re ready to start running”
