Posted online
The average price of gas in Missouri dropped 13 cents over the past week to $2.29 per gallon yesterday, according to industry market tracker GasBuddy.com.

Missouri’s average marked a 19.7-cent monthly decline and 91.5-cent yearly decrease. The U.S. average, which fell 12.8 cents during the past week to $2.47 per gallon yesterday, has moved down 19.5 cents in the past month and 96.4 cents in the past year, according to a news release.

"Nationally, gas prices saw their largest weekly drop of the year," said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy senior petroleum analyst, in the release. "The national average now stands at its lowest point since April, a fitting way to close out the summer driving season with Labor Day approaching.”

This morning, Missouri ranked 13th on GasBuddy’s list of the lowest gas price averages in the nation. At $2.01 per gallon, South Carolina was No. 1, while Alaska was last with its $3.36 average.

The lowest Missouri gas price this morning was $1.94 per gallon, available at three filling stations in Hannibal, in the northeast portion of the state. At $3.33 per gallon, the highest price for gas in the Show-Me State was available at a station in Osage Beach, according to MissouriGasPrices.com.

Springfieldians could purchase gas for $2.18 per gallon at both Sam’s Club stores, as well as the Murphy station at 3516 W. Sunshine St. Prices elsewhere ranged from $2.25 to $2.29 per gallon.

As of 9:49 a.m., West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $44.26 per barrel, compared to $38.86 a week ago. Light sweet crude oil futures for October were trading at $44.25.
