Pyramid Foods is gearing up to open a Springfield Cash Saver store at a former Dillons.
A building permit on file with the city of Springfield indicates signage has been approved for the 1701 W. Battlefield Road property, which sits on 4.8 acres and has a 2015 taxable appraised value of $3.2 million.
Cash Saver, a discount food outlet, operates three stores: one each in Ozark, Lamar and Baxter Springs, Kan., according to its website. Pyramid Foods’ job site does not list openings for a Cash Saver in Springfield. A separate website, CashSaver417.com, indicates a Cash Saver operates at 2650 W. Kearney St.
Pyramid Foods, the parent company of Price Cutter and other grocery store brands, bought the property last year as part of a four-store deal when Dillons announced it was leaving the market.
In February, the company opened a Price Cutter in the former Dillons at 1831 W. Kearney St., followed by a Price Cutter store at the 1260 St. Louis St. Dillons in April, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.
The company has not officially announced plans for the Dillons stores at 1701 W. Battlefield and 2843 E. Sunshine St.
A July 24 city permit - which lists Pyramid Foods Executive Director of Real Estate Planning and Development Rob Marsh as the owner contact - indicates interior demolition has been approved for the Sunshine Street property. The filing does not indicate what the building would be used for.
Marsh and Pyramid Foods CEO Erick Taylor could not be reached for comment by deadline.
