Project description: Springfield 8 is adding two standard auditoriums and the only IMAX auditorium in Springfield, according to officials at Overland Park, Kan.-based ShowPlex Cinemas, which owns Springfield 8. The IMAX will comprise 300 seats and house a screen roughly four stories high and 70 feet across, and the two standard auditoriums will together add about 240 stadium-style seats, said J.R. Deeter, division manager for ShowPlex. The rest of the theater also is undergoing renovations, including the theater’s conversion to digital projection systems and new concessions. ShowPlex CEO Al Lane said Springfield 8 would remain open throughout the project, which is planned to wrap in time for the Nov. 18 release of “Happy Feet 2.” Officials have said the name will change to Springfield 11 IMAX.[[In-content Ad]]
