Missouri’s personal income grows 3.5%

Show-Me State residents’ personal income climbed 3.5 percent in the first quarter to $271.7 billion from $262.5 billion a year earlier, according to data released today by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

The Missouri average was the second-highest level among the seven states the BEA groups into its Plains region. Minnesota ranked No. 1, at $292.3 billion. The lowest in the Plains region was North Dakota, at $41.6 billion.

Comparatively, the U.S. average increased 3.7 percent to $16.4 trillion in the first quarter compared with the same time in 2016.

Personal income is determined by adding together net earnings, dividends, interest and rent, and transfer payments, according to the BEA.
