Marshfield woman pleads guilty to mail theft, fraud

Posted online
Marshfield resident Annette West yesterday admitted she stole mail and used the stolen contents to commit check and credit card fraud.

The 46-year-old pleaded guilty to three charges: stealing mail, depositing a fraudulent check and credit card fraud, according to a news release from Tom Larson, acting U.S. attorney for the Western District of Missouri.

In her guilty plea, West admitted she either stole or had others steal mail from 16 victims between Oct. 29 and Dec. 9, 2016. The contents included checks, credit cards, Social Security cards and other personal identification information.

After stealing the mail, West altered a stolen check and deposited it into her personal bank account. Aided and abetted by others, West also fraudulently conducted financial transactions with stolen credit cards from three victims, according to the release.

Under federal statutes, West could receive a sentence of up to 30 years in federal prison without parole.
