Drury taps Mizzou assistant chancellor as executive VP

Posted online
Drury University hired a University of Missouri assistant vice chancellor as its new executive president for advancement.

On July 1, Wayne Chipman will step into the position and report directly to President-elect Timothy Cloyd. Chipman succeeds Dianne Johnson, who resigned earlier this semester to pursue other opportunities, said Drury spokesman Mike Brothers.

Chipman currently serves as Mizzou’s assistant vice chancellor for advancement and university programs; he’s been been promoted four times in 13 years working at the Columbia college. He also spent two years as an executive at Truman State University, as well as four years at Drury working in the office of development and alumni relations, according to a news release.

“Wayne is just the person to lead Drury’s comprehensive advancement division,” Cloyd said in the release. “He is not only a proven first-class fundraiser but has excellent skills in management, team building, alumni and community relations.”

At Mizzou, Chipman played a key role in the university’s $1.04 billion fundraising campaign dubbed “For All We Call Mizzou,” and he is a current leader in its $1.3 billion “Mizzou: Our Time to Lead” campaign.

Both Chipman and Cloyd are bringing fundraising experience to Drury.

“Our road to a wholesome future passes through our alumni,” Drury board Chairman Lyle Reed said in the release. “We are looking forward to Wayne helping us build that super-highway. Drury is proud to have one of its own return home and play an instrumental role in our future.”

A Drury alumnus, Chipman also has past experience working as a Springfield attorney and in economic development for the Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce.
