A new store for Cricket Wireless LLC is going in on the city’s north side.
About $250,000 in renovations are underway at 1540 N. Glenstone Ave., near the Price Cutter grocery store at Division Street and Glenstone Avenue, said project architect James O’Donnell. Work on the former Cash Choice payday loan building by Bryant, Arkansas-based Moser Construction LLC began around July 1 and should be completed around Aug. 10.
When open, the store would be the ninth in Springfield for Cricket Wireless, an AT&T Inc. (NYSE: T) subsidiary known for its contract-free, prepaid cellular plans. Crown Wireless II Corp. is the authorized dealer/retailer for the latest store.
“I understand they’re going to start carrying iPhones now, so that will make it more appealing,” said O’Donnell, an independent architect.
Schober Engineering LLC in Nixa also did work on the project. Cricket Wireless stores also operate in Ozark, Nixa and Republic, according to its website. Company materials say its 4G LTE network covers 319 million people.
