CoxHealth responds to death of physician

Posted online
CoxHealth has activated its critical incident stress management team to work with hospital colleagues and friends of a health system physician who died of an apparent suicide last week.

CoxHealth hospitalist Dr. Rudolph Fajardo, 35, and his wife, Stephanie, 32, were found dead Friday in their southeast Springfield home after an apparent murder-suicide, according to an investigation report by the Springfield Police Department.

"During his time here, Dr. Fajardo was a respected physician. This is a tragic loss for the CoxHealth family," said Yvette Williams, the Springfield health system's director of corporate communications, in an emailed statement.

Fajardo joined Springfield Inpatient Physicians in July 2008 as a hospitalist, seeing patients hospitalized at CoxHealth. He attended medical school at Wright State University School of Medicine in Dayton, Ohio, and completed his residency in internal medicine/pediatrics at the University of Mississippi Medical Center Program, according to Springfield Business Journal archives.

Springfield Police investigated 2100 E. Norshire St., in Ravenwood South, after receiving a 911 call from a 7-year-old child in the home. The couple's three other children, ages 6, 3 and 1, also were found in the residence. None of the children were injured, according to a news release from the Police Department.

The bodies of Fajardo and his wife were found at the home. Initial indications from the crime scene, show Fajardo shot and killed his wife before turning the weapon on himself, according to police reports.[[In-content Ad]]
