CellARide raises $100K in new investments

Springfield tech startup CellARide LLC secured $100,000 in funding from two investors.

Jim Carr of Mayhem Development LLC and an unnamed investor agreed to provide $50,000 apiece to CellARide.

CellARide CEO Josh Holstein said the latest investment round brings the company’s total raised to $640,000. His company, which provides text-message marketing for the automotive industry, has secured investments from the likes of CarFax Inc. founder Ewin Barnett III and a pilot project with General Motors Co. (NYSE: GM).

“While not focusing on short-term revenue growth, we have sought deals that increase our reach into the automotive and related industries,” Holstein said via email. “As we speak, we are working on partnerships to expand outside of the automotive space.”

Holstein said new services BoatInfoToGo and ATVInfoToGo would mark the company’s entry into the boating and all-terrain vehicle markets, though he declined to disclose specific companies CellARide is working with in those industries. CellARide’s CarInfoToGo service allows users to text a short code for more information on a vehicle and also sends dealers contact information for those browsing their inventory.

Carr’s contribution marks his second investment in CellARide and brings his total stake up to $125,000. His Mayhem Development seeks to invest in companies that are shaking up industries. Both companies are tenants of Missouri State University’s downtown eFactory.

The unnamed investor is one of Holstein’s mentors and a 30-year leader in the local business community, according to information provided by CellARide.
