Alamo Drafthouse, county seek workers

Alamo Drafthouse Cinema and Greene County are among several employers looking to hire workers locally.

The Texas-based theater chain yesterday issued a news release indicating a need for part-time servers, kitchen staff, bartenders and other bar staff, box office and concierge staff, and projectionists. The company’s website lists nine available positions.

Officials with the Springfield Alamo have said the theater set to open this spring would employ 150. The 55,000-square-foot, 14-screen theater will be the largest in the chain of 25 theaters spanning from San Francisco to New York. The theater had been scheduled to open in February, but construction delays pushed backed the date. Officials could not be reached for comment by deadline on its progress.

Alamo Drafthouse yesterday held a recruiting event at Sleep Inn, 233 E. Camino Alto Drive, and have another scheduled March 20 at Wil Fischer Cos., 3539 W. Farm Road 142.  

The Greene County Highway Department has 20 seasonal jobs available in an effort to maintain county road services from April through October, according to a news release.

“If positions are not filled to capacity, county residents could see a noticeable decrease in mowing in the right of ways and a delayed response time with other routine and requested maintenance items,” the release from county spokeswoman Trysta Herzog states.

The county is hosting open interviews 8 a.m.-4 p.m. tomorrow at 2065 N. Clinton Ave.

Earlier this week, former Springfield Brewing Co. co-owner Bryan Bevel partnered with the Missouri Job Center and Ozark Region Workforce Development Board on hiring events for his new concept The Pitch Pizza & Pub at 2924 E. Sunshine St. The March 13 and March 14 events sought 20 employees, said city spokeswoman Megan Short.

Bevel previously told Springfield Business Journal he’s targeting a late March opening for the restaurant in the Southern Hills Shopping Center.

The job center and Ozark Region Workforce Development Board also are partnering with several employers in Branson for the third and final week of a spring job fair. Employers seeking workers include CoxHealth, Phoenix Home Care, Silver Dollar City and Oxford HealthCare, according to a release. Short was unsure how many jobs have been sought during the hiring fair.
