Welcome to the Summer 2015 Project Report. Local architecture and engineering firms were invited to submit projects showcasing their work for this feature, which is published semiannually.

Esterly, Schneider & Associates Inc.
Fremont Elementary School addition
2814 N. Fremont Ave.

Esterly, Schneider & Associates Inc. is handling design work for Springfield Public Schools’ $9.8 million Fremont Elementary School addition and remodel. The firm is working with general contractor Branco Enterprises Inc. on a 42,000-square-foot addition and 20,000-square-foot renovation. The design incorporates exploratory learning. Project engineers are Anderson Engineering Inc., civil; Hollis and Miller Architects Inc., structural; and Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The project is expected to be complete next July.

Pineville Elementary safe room
100 Mustang Drive, Anderson

Paragon Architecture Inc. is working with the McDonald County R-1 School District to design a tornado safe room at Pineville Elementary. Nabholz Construction Corp. is general contractor for the $3.95 million 17,000-square-foot combination safe room and multipurpose room with locker facilities. The addition also houses art and band rooms, a computer lab facility and cafeteria expansion. Engineers are Allgeier, Martin and Associates Inc., civil; Toth & Associates Inc., structural; Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing; and Terracon Consultants Inc., geotechnical. Completion is scheduled for this month.

nForm Architecture LLC
West Plains transit facility
303 Jackie D. Garrett Drive, West Plains

NForm Architecture LLC is working with the city of West Plains on a $900,000 transit facility to be completed this fall. The project consists of three drive-thru bus bays, a bus wash station and associated offices. The building exterior utilizes simple materials consistent with nearby city projects. General contractor John Adams Construction Co. Inc. is working with project engineers Overland Engineering LLC, civil; J&M Engineering LLC, structural; Colvin Jones Davis LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing; and Zanaboni-Smith Design Studio LLC, landscape architect.


Ireland Architects Inc.
Kickapoo Corners renovation

3617–3663 South Avenue

Ireland Architects Inc. is working with Kickapoo Corners LLC on a facade renovation to the south Springfield shopping center. General contractor Branco Enterprises Inc. will build entrances with curved metal arches and updated materials with pops of color.
Engineers are J&M Engineering LLC, structural; and Interpres Building Solutions LLC, electrical. With a loan through Central Bank of the Ozarks for an undisclosed amount, completion is scheduled for December.

Sapp Design Associates Architects PC
Joplin Public Library
20th Street and
Connecticut Avenue, Joplin

Sapp Design Associates Architects PC is working with the city of Joplin on a new Public Library.
In 2012, the city was awarded a $20 million grant from the U.S. Economic Development Administration to relocate and build a modern library facility. Designs include public meeting spaces, maker spaces, public computer areas and a community tornado safe room. Project engineers are Tri-State Engineering Inc., civil; Toth and Associates Inc., structural; and Colvin Jones Davis LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The project should be complete next fall.

Slone Architects & Interior Designers Inc.
Welk Resort Phase IV
1984 State Highway 165, Branson

Slone Architects & Interior Designers Inc. is working with Branson’s Welk Resorts on Phase IV of the complex. The $8 million project includes 16 condo units in building No. 8 and 32 condo units in building No. 9. Targeting a summer completion, general contractor is Quality Structures Inc. of Arkansas. Engineers are Crocker Consulting Engineers Inc., civil; Wells & Scaletty LLC, structural; Interpres Building Solutions LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

H Design Group LLC
Nixa Senior Community
The Villages At Wicklow, Nixa

H Design Group LLC is working with owner O’Reilly Development Co. LLC on a Nixa senior living project. The Nixa Senior Community will be a continuum of care community consisting of independent living, assisted living and memory care units. Designs call for three buildings: a three-story 67,000-square-foot independent living building with 51 residences; a two-story 34,000-square-foot assisted living building with 40 residences; and a single-story memory care building with 13 units. Build LLC is general contractor, and engineers are Olsson Associates Inc., civil; J&M Engineering LLC, structural; and Colvin Jones Davis LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The work is scheduled for summer completion.

Bates & Associates Inc.
Reliable Lexus expansion
3521 E. Sunshine St.

Bates & Associates Inc. is working with Reliable Superstore owner Tony Stubblefield on a $2.3 million renovation and expansion of the 23,000-square-foot showroom and service area for Reliable Lexus. General contractor is DeWitt & Associates Inc. is targeting Set completion in March. Engineers are CJW Transportation Consultants LLC, civil; Wells & Scaletty LLC, structural; and Colvin Jones Davis LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

Jack Ball Architects PC
Logan-Rogersville High School safe room
4700 State Highway 125, Rogersville

Jack Ball Architects PC is working with the Logan-Rogersville R-8 School District on a Federal Emergency Management Agency shelter and addition to the high school. The two-story addition is designed with seven classrooms and a large conference room. Project engineers are Pinnacle Design Consultants LLC, civil; Toth and Associates Inc., structural; and Interpres Building Solutions LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Completion is scheduled for next August.

Buxton Kubik Dodd Creative
Kickapoo High School, Phases 1A and 1B

Buxton Kubik Dodd Creative is working with Springfield Public Schools on a renovation and upgrade to Kickapoo High School. Phases 1A and 1B of the 2013 bond issue project includes mechanical system upgrades throughout the facility, along with renovation of the kitchen, cafeteria and the introduction of a new student commons. General contractor on the $8.5 million project is DeWitt & Associates Inc. Project engineers are Toth and Associates Inc., civil and structural; and Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc., mechanical, electrical and plumbing. The renovation is set to be complete this fall.

Hood-Rich Inc.
Train depot
833 W. Calhoun St.

Architect Hood-Rich Inc. is working with The Railroad Historical Museum Inc. to develop a train depot in Grant Beach Park. The $120,000 structure is a replica of past small-town depots for display of railroad industry artifacts. The depot includes a baggage storage room, an office/ticket room and a passenger waiting area. The depot will be adjacent to the locomotive and train cars already in the park for public viewing. Engineers are Olsson Associates Inc., civil; Mettemeyer Engineering LLC, structural; and Smith-Goth Engineers Inc., mechanical electrical and plumbing. The project should be complete this spring.

Torgerson Design Partners LLC
Scrivener Oil Co. office expansion
1603 State Highway J, Ozark

Torgerson Design Partners LLC is designing an Ozark office for Scrivener Oil Co. The $1.1 million project includes office infill and exterior modification of an exiting building. General contractor MSB Inc. is working with mechanical electrical and plumbing engineer Smith-Goth Engineers Inc. The work is expected to be complete in January.

Insight Design Architects LLC
Southwest Missouri Family Entertainment Center

Insight Design Architects LLC is working for an undisclosed client on the $4 million Southwest Missouri Family Entertainment Center, which will feature a 16-lane bowling alley, arcade, laser tag, and bar and grill. Project engineers and a general contractor have not yet been selected. The center is set for completion next fall.

Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Inc.
Blair Shannon House renovation
1001 E. Madison St.

Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Inc. is working with Missouri State University to renovate the dining center in Blair Shannon House. Nesbitt Construction Inc. is general contractor in the $860,000 project ,which will improve energy-efficient lighting, reconfigure serving lines, remove interior partitions and install a new dishwashing unit. Engineers are Butler, Rosenbury & Partners, structural; and Smith-Goth Engineers Inc., mechanical electrical and plumbing. The project will be complete this fall.

Polo Early Childhood Development Center
300 W. School St., Polo

Malone Finkle Eckhardt & Collins Inc. is mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer for the Polo R-8 School District’s Early Childhood Development Center. The $690,000, 3,600-square-foot project comprises two classrooms, offices, kitchen, restrooms and a 200-square-foot hardened shelter. General contractor Burman Cos. is working with architect Paragon Architecture Inc. Other engineers are Snyder & Associates Inc., civil; Toth and Associates Inc., structural; and Terracon Consultants Inc., geotechnical. The project is set for completion in September.

J&M Engineering LLC
Soccer field press box
1923 N. Weller Ave.

Structural engineer J&M Engineering LLC is working with the Springfield-Greene County Park Board on $450,000 in improvements to the Lake Country Soccer/Cooper Soccer Complex press box. The approximately 3,600-square-foot, two-story project includes storage space as well as the demolition of the existing press box, select site elements and the addition of new utilities. Paragon Architecture Inc. is project architect. Additional engineering work is from Olsson Associates Inc., civil; Smith-Goth Engineers Inc., mechanical electrical and plumbing; and Palmerton and Parrish Inc., geotechnical. An estimated completion date hasn’t been determined.

Stormwater improvements
Southeast Springfield

Civil engineer Olsson Associates Inc. is working with the city of Springfield on Phase I of stormwater improvements in the Ravenwood South subdivision. The $800,000 project comprises a detention basin within Lake Springfield Park, enlargement of an existing detention basin near East Carleton Street and drainage improvements near the intersection of South Charleston Avenue and East Carleton Street. The project is set for completion in December.

CJW Transportation Consultants LLC
Intersection improvements
Kearney Street and Mulroy Road

Civil engineer CJW Transportation Consultants LLC is working with the city of Springfield on intersection improvements in this northeast Springfield industrial park. Improvements will serve traffic demand for prospective new tenants. CJW also worked with the railroad to provide safety improvements. The project is estimated to run between $320,000 and $380,000 by its spring completion date.

Southwest City Elementary safe room
411 Academy St., Southwest City

Civil engineer Allgeier, Martin and Associates Inc. is working with the McDonald County R-1 School District to add a tornado safe room to Southwest City Elementary. The $2.98 million project comprises a tornado safe room, a multipurpose room, restrooms, locker rooms, mezzanine, attached lobby, corridor to the existing school, a classroom addition and storage rooms. Nabholz Construction Corp. is general contractor on the 14,200-square-foot project and Paragon Architecture Inc. is the architect

Mettemeyer Engineering LLC
Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center
Broken Arrow, Okla.

Structural engineer Mettemeyer Engineering LLC is working with developer Stoney Creek LLC on the Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center in Broken Arrow, Okla. The hotel is a five-story structure with a walk-out basement and roughly 167 rooms. The first floor has a swimming pool, lobby and an entrance porte cochere. The conference center is approximately 26,000 square feet. General contractor Henning Construction Co. LLC is expected to wrap construction in July.

Interpres Building Solutions LLC
Stonebrooke Center
500 GW Lane St., Waynesville

Interpres Building Solutions LLC is mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineer for the Stonebrooke Center. Working with architect Ireland and Associates Inc. for owner Stonebrooke Church, the center will total approximately 15,600 square feet and include an assembly area, day care and support spaces. JD-Mc Engineering LLC serves as structural engineer for the project expected to be complete in the spring.

Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Inc.
Acacia Spa

Architect and structural engineer Butler, Rosenbury & Partners Inc. is working with building owner Christina Chanter on the relocation of Acacia Spa, which is owned by Richard and Allyson Kennedy. The 9,000-square-foot building is designed with retail space and a juice bar at ground level and a full-service day spa on the upper level. The project includes guest lounges, steam showers, arctic rooms, saunas, aesthetician and massage rooms, and a multipurpose event space opening into a courtyard. General contractor is Adam Pyle & Associates LLC, and additional engineering work is from Anderson Engineering Inc., civil; and Colvin Jones Davis LLC, mechanical, electrical and plumbing. Completion is scheduled in early 2016.

Toth & Associates Inc.
Neosho Junior High School
418 Fairground Road, Neosho

Civil and structural engineer Toth & Associates Inc. is working with the Neosho R-5 School District on a new junior high school. The $24 million bond-issue project includes a two-story classroom wing, gymnasium, cafeteria, fine arts and industrial arts spaces, and administrative support areas. A portion of the structure is designed as a Federal Emergency Management Agency safe room. Architect is Sapp Design Associates Architects PC, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering is from Colvin Jones Davis LLC. The project will wrap in 2017.

Miller Engineering PC
Haxton District Building No. 1
200 SE B St., Bentonville, Ark.

Structural engineer Miller Engineering PC is working with developer TNG Properties LLC on the Haxton District Building No. 1, a downtown Bentonville, Ark., redevelopment project with lease space for a variety of tenants. Slated for completion in April, the $1 million project was designed by Mangold Burris Architecture LLC and additional engineering from Sand Creek Engineering, civil; and Omni Engineers, mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

So-El District Lofts
405 E. Madison St.

Civil engineer Pinnacle Design Consultants LLC  is working with owner and developer Buxton Kubik Dodd Creative on So-El District Lofts, a student housing project targeting Missouri State University students. The project is scheduled for completion in 2016.
