The Mentors Project: Tony Turner

Posted online
MENTEE
I mentor several people, leaders of their companies, as well as students of Victory Trade School from 2010-12.

OBJECTIVE
I see it as a coaching relationship. I come to the other person saying allow me to give input and insight that will help you perform better. One student, Jeremy Broshear, currently resides in Niagara Falls, Ontario. He is the head chef of a local college there. Jeremy had issues that we were able to work on together to enable him to be a success in the professional culinary world.

RESULTS
I measure success based on the matrix the mentee sets (and) we develop guideposts that we can celebrate together when they cross those points. Jeremy and I worked through issues like how to deal with people who are making destructive choices around you without getting caught up in their bad choices. We talked about next steps for financial security (and) how to make faith-based decisions in the workplace, specifically in the commercial kitchen.

CHALLENGES
Time is one. Oftentimes we can get so caught up in the bottom line of making money or taking market share that we will not invest the time to work on our selves.

BREAKTHROUGHS
There have been some businesspeople that were on a path of divorce and their marriages have been saved. One in particular was deeply involved in drugs and alcohol, and he was able to experience freedom through our coaching and some additional treatment.
