Springfield Ballet hires new director

Posted online
Springfield Ballet Inc. has a new executive director in place less than two months after Evan Bennett announced he accepted an out-of-state job.

Ashley Walden, the three-year director of operations for United Way of the Ozarks, started yesterday leading the ballet. Bennett exited the job on Feb. 17 to start in the newly created role of learning and engagement manager for the Seattle Opera.

“I have been a supporter for the last four years and just fell in love with the organization,” said Walden, who has a daughter in the ballet.

At the ballet, Walden handles operations and business development, while curriculum is led by Ashley Paige Romines, artistic and school director.

Walden steps into an organization with a 2016-17 operating budget of $401,350, which was up from $336,000 in the previous year. The organization has performed “The Nutcracker” for over 30 years and this spring is preparing for “Alice in Wonderland.”
