Itty Bitty City
Children’s creative play center Itty Bitty City opened Oct. 22 at 3640 S. Campbell Ave. in Kickapoo Corners. Designed for kids 8 and younger, play areas include a village with a fire station, schoolhouse and cafe; a water table with manipulative pieces; an art and science studio; and a stage with costumes, puppets and music. Owner Fawn Rechkemmer previously worked for the Discovery Center for six years and an education museum in Arkansas. With thousands of hours of research, she developed the Itty Bitty City concept from her work experience and travel to other play centers with her two children. Oak Grove Construction handled infill work on the 6,500-square-foot center, and the interior was a compilation of playhouses from Pennsylvania-based Lilliput Play Homes and local muralists and fabricators. She declined to disclosed the startup investment. Rates are $9 for an individual day pass, and annual memberships start at $200 per child.
Hours: 9 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Sunday

Coop’s Fresh Kitchen
The Still family on Nov. 11 opened Coop’s Fresh Kitchen, a food truck specializing in hand-battered southern fried chicken. It’s currently stationed at 3660 W. Sunshine St., near the Wal-Mart Supercenter. With five members involved, Joseph and Lora Still are primarily in charge of cooking, said Rebecca Still, Joseph’s mother. Joseph and Lora have about 10 years of combined culinary experience, she said. Inside the 300-square-foot truck, the family prepares spicy chicken sandwiches, the Pop’s Spamwich, brussels and bacon, veggie fritter wraps and fried pickles. Sandwiches are $7 and sides run about $4. Coop’s is named after agent Dale Cooper from the “Twin Peaks” TV series.
