Edge Stoneworks LLC opened July 13 to manufacture natural stone countertops at 4173 N. 20th St., Ste. D, in Ozark. Owners
Lisa Chapman and
Brian Bohnstedt signed a three-year lease for $1,700 a month with Paul Wood for the 6,000-square-foot building. Chapman said it’s laid out with 2,000 square feet for the showroom and offices and a separate area for production. Working with granite, marble and quartz, Edge Stoneworks creates custom countertops, fireplace surrounds, vanities and furniture pieces. Chapman said the company buys stone from Stoneland Inc., MS International, Atlas Stone Distribution and Cosmos Granite & Marble. She said prices range from $40 to $80 per square foot, including installation. Previously, Bohnstedt worked several years for KPC Tile & Stone, and Chapman was office manager for Auto Body USA.

Andy’s Frozen Custard Inc.
Andy’s Frozen Custard Inc. opened its sixth Springfield store Sept. 28 at 3830 S. Glenstone Ave. It’s the 38th custard shop for the company on track to operate 75 corporate-owned and franchise stores by the end of 2017. The corporate-owned store is built on 1.5 acres Andy’s bought after the Skateport roller rink closed to make way for a new intersection north of Glenstone Avenue and James River Freeway. The custard chain hired Morelock Ross Builders Inc. to construct the 1,936-square-foot store for $180,000, according to city building permits. Andy’s spokeswoman
Stevie Stryker said in-house architect Aaron King worked with Esterly, Schneider and Associates Inc. to create the new signature design rolling out systemwide. In addition to sundaes and concretes, such as the Andy’s Ozark Turtle and the Jitterbug, the store serves Zarlengo’s Italian ice and Sprecher soda. Stryker said the store employs 24.

Mers Goodwill
St. Louis-based nonprofit Mers Goodwill opened a $2.8 million store Oct. 6 at 3151 S. Kansas Expressway, replacing an aging store at 520 E. Battlefield Road. Improvements include a canopy-covered drive-thru for donation deliveries, increased parking capacity and nearly 8,900 square feet of retail space out of 15,575 square feet total. Carlene Mayberry runs the store on Kansas Expressway, which employs over 20 people. The stores collect and resell donations of household goods, clothing and furniture. Company materials claim store proceeds systemwide will help over 248,000 people earn jobs this year. Dooley said the new store’s operating budget is close to $2 million.
