Arvest Bank promoted commercial loan manager Summer Massey to senior vice president and loan manager succeeding the retiring Keran Lemons. An Arvest employee since 2013, she has an MBA from Missouri State University and completed the American Bankers Association Commercial Banking School at Southern Methodist University.

Lemons has worked 47 years in banking and plans to retire in early January. He’s been with Arvest since 2007 and started his career with Farmers State Bank in 1969. Other stints were with Boatmen’s Bank/NationsBank, Merrill Lynch, BKD Wealth Advisors and Liberty Bank.

Tom Lay joined Hawthorn Bank as a commercial loan officer. He has 29 years of banking experience and certification from the Graduate School of Banking in Wisconsin.

Economic Development
Springfield Area Chamber of Commerce appointed seven new directors to its board for 2017: Catherine Bass of Bass Pro Shops; Mike Carroll of Andy’s Frozen Custard; Charity Elmer of CoxHealth; Frederick James of 3M Co.; Marshall Kinne of Med-Pay Inc.; Gary Leonard of Steak ‘N Shake; and Robin Robeson of Guaranty Bank. Each will serve a three-year term beginning Jan. 1, 2017.

Education
Nixa Public Schools received a rebate of $31,431 through the Missouri School Boards’ Association’s procurement card program. The P-Cards save school districts money by improving controls over spending and reducing paperwork. This year, 39 Missouri school districts are receiving over $200,000 in rebates.

The MSU Board of Governors elected new officers: Springfield attorneys Joe Carmichael, as chairman, and Virginia Fry, as vice chairwoman, and MSU staff members Steve Foucart, as treasurer, and Kristan Gochenauer, as secretary. Terms begin Jan. 1.

Drury University honored six people at the 65th annual Distinguished Alumni Awards ceremony: Sue Carter Porges of the Kinsey Institute at Indiana University, Lifetime Achievement Award; Steve Edwards of CoxHealth, University Engagement Award; Calla Wiemer of the University of the Philippines School of Economics, Career Achievement Award; Janet Steinmetz Trotter, who started the Missouri Association for Children with Learning Disabilities, Outstanding Service Award; Dr. Adam McClellan of Periodontal Care, Young Alumnus Award; and Traci Sooter of Drury’s Hammons School of Architecture, Faculty/Staff Appreciation Award.

MSU named financial aid counselor Melissa Goodman the assistant director of athletics for business administration.

In seven years at the school, she has managed $4.6 million in athletic scholarships. Goodman has a degree in anthropology from MSU.

The MSU Board of Governors voted to give the Governmental Excellence Award to Michael Nietzel for extraordinary achievement and outstanding support of the university. He served as MSU president 2005-10, when Nietzel moved to senior policy adviser for Gov. Jay Nixon. He will be presented with the award during commencement Dec. 16.

Philanthropist Bobby Allison was selected for MSU’s 2016 Bronze Bear Award. Recipients are recommended by the university president and administrative council. A 30-year sales manager at Custom Protein Corp., Allison has made naming-level donations for MSU’s soccer, women’s track and field, and field hockey stadiums, as well as a sand volleyball complex. The 18th Bronze Bear recipient, he’ll be honored at the Dec. 16 commencement.

Franchise
Nathanael Toms, owner of Mr. Electric of Southwest Missouri, received the Top Gun award from the Mr. Electric corporate office during the Dwyer Group International Conference held in San Antonio, Texas. Recipients represent the top 10 percent of Mr. Electric franchise owners nationwide.

Nonprofit
Patrick Gartland, executive director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Springfield, received the Heart & Soul Award at the Boys & Girls Clubs America Midwest Leadership Conference in Louisville, Kentucky. He has worked for the club since 1980, during which time the endowment has doubled.
