Mo. gas rise eclipses US uptick

Posted online
The Missouri gas average rose 12.2 cents during the past week to $2.22 per gallon yesterday, according to GasBuddy.com’s survey of nearly 4,000 filling stations throughout the state.

Missouri’s movement eclipsed the national average, which increased 2.7 cents to $2.31 per gallon yesterday, according to a news release.

As of yesterday, Missouri’s average was 10.9 cents higher than a month ago and 67.7 cents lower than a year ago. The U.S. rate has decreased 3.1 cents during the past month but increased 88 cents during the past year.

"A majority of states saw gasoline prices jumping over the last week thanks to an upward move in oil prices, as well as refinery maintenance season getting underway, constricting gasoline output," said Patrick DeHaan, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy, in the release. "The jump was led by states in the Midwest - areas that GasBuddy had warned last week were ripe for hikes thanks to a confluence of refinery maintenance and outages.”

Missouri ranked No. 16 this morning on GasBuddy’s list of the lowest averages in the nation. With its $1.96 average, South Carolina topped the list, while California was at the bottom with its $2.92 average.

In Missouri, the lowest price for gas this morning was $1.93 per gallon, available at six stations in Festus, Crystal City and Herculaneum. The highest price, $2.99 per gallon, was at a station in Fairview Heights, according to MissouriGasPrices.com

Springfieldians could buy gas for as low as $2.19 per gallon at 13 stations.

As of 10:42 a.m., West Texas Intermediate crude oil was trading at $44.63 per barrel, compared to a 52-week range of $38.51 to $81.47.
