Local clinics receive $303K from HHS

Posted online
Jordan Valley Community Health Center is among four local and more than 1,300 centers nationwide the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services awarded $100 million in funding to invest in health center quality improvement efforts and to provide high quality comprehensive care.

Organized under Advocates for a Healthy Community Inc., Jordan Valley will receive $144,933 of the more than $2.06 million earmarked for 28 Missouri clinics. Also on the list locally are:

• Fordland Clinic for $40,000;

• Neosho-based Ozark Tri-County Health Care Consortium dba Access Family Care for $62,918; and

• Preferred Family Healthcare Inc. for $55,623.

The money comes from the Affordable Care Act’s Community Health Center Fund, which was extended with bipartisan support in the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 according to a news release.

“Millions of Americans rely on health centers to provide them with quality health care,” said Mary Wakefield, HHS acting deputy secretary, in the release. “These quality improvement awards will support health centers to continue to deliver superior health care that engages patients, improves care coordination and bridges overall access to care.”

Health centers will receive the fiscal 2016 funds based on high levels of performance in one or more of the following categories: improving quality of care, advancing health equity, maintaining patient-centered medical home recognition, enhancing access to care and delivering value, according to the release.

“Health centers are evaluated on a set of performance measures emphasizing health outcomes and the value of care delivered,” said Jim Macrae, the acting administrator  for the Health Resources and Services Administration, in the release. “These measures provide a balanced, comprehensive look at services to manage conditions among the vulnerable populations served by health centers.”

Nationwide, nearly 1,400 health centers operating over 9,800 sites provide care to more than 24 million people in every U.S. state, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the Pacific Basin.
