Kitchen CEO exits suddenly

Posted online
Rorie Orgeron, The Kitchen Inc.’s CEO since 2008, left the organization.

Jim Newman, president of the nonprofit’s board of trustees, declined to say whether Orgeron resigned or was let go. A news release issued this morning indicates Orgeron’s last day was May 22, but it didn’t go into details on his exit.

“The privacy of our clients and employees are important to us,” Newman said. “We wish him the very best.”

Orgeron joined The Kitchen in 2005 as its chief operations officer and became director of development in 2007. He was named interim CEO in April 2008 and secured the role permanently six weeks later.

Most recently, Orgeron led the nonprofit’s sale of its seven-building, 106,000-square-foot campus on Commercial Street to Historic Commercial Developments LLC, as well as plans to relocate to a $4 million campus at Glenstone Avenue and Chestnut Expressway.

He also was instrumental in shuttering the Missouri Hotel homeless shelter as The Kitchen moved to a housing-first model.

Newman said the nonprofit’s board will develop a search committee to examine internal and external candidates for the next CEO. No set timeline is in place.

The Kitchen ranked 12th this year on Springfield Business Journal’s list of the area’s largest nonprofits, with 51 employees. The nonprofit’s 2017 budget as of Jan. 23 was $3.2 million, though it had not been finalized when SBJ published the list.
