2016 Dynamic Dozen Employee of the Year: Allison Ledford

Posted online
Allison Ledford’s life motto is simple: Treat people well.

“I’ve always tried to live by the Golden Rule. I truly try to treat others the way that I would like to be treated,” says Ledford, clerical assistant to Superintendent Stephen Kleinsmith and business office receptionist for Nixa Public Schools. “I always try to stay positive and smile, even over the phone.”

Ledford believes it’s says an honor to help others. She recalls a time in her life when her family needed assistance.

She understands what it’s like to be on the receiving end.

“I want others to feel the same comfort in knowing that someone cares and wants to help with no strings attached,” she says of the experience.

Ledford fields dozens of calls and emails a day from students, parents and staff, some of whom are displeased.

“Nothing makes me happier than to be able to make someone’s day by helping them find a solution to their dilemma,” she says.

“I try to influence others in the workplace by being a positive, upbeat, helpful and contributing member to the team.”

Ledford also works with at-risk students at the Second Chance on Receiving an Education campus of Nixa High School, where she lunches weekly and brings ice cream at the end of each quarter for good grades.

“Just this small act of kindness means the world to these at-risk teens,” Ledford says. “I am also a member of their Parent Teacher Student Association. Even though I have never had my own children attend this school, I know the importance of parent involvement, and some of these students may not have that in their own homes.

“I’ve been blessed to watch many of these students blossom and thrive under the district’s amazing at-risk program.”

Ledford’s reach also extends to heading up Nixa Project Graduation.

It’s her second time.

“I feel privileged to be part of organizing a post-graduation party where I know they will be kept safe and enjoy their time together making lasting memories,” she says.

Ledford is active with the Athletic Booster Club and was honored in 2013 by the Nixa PTA Council with the Missouri PTA Distinguished Service Award.

Outside the district, Ledford contributes to an organization close to her heart.

“I am an 18-year cancer survivor,” Ledford says. “It was an honor to help raise funds for such a wonderful organization that assisted me in my fight.”

In 2009, she was recognized by the American Cancer Society for serving as corporate sponsorship chairperson for Relay For Life.

Superintendent Kleinsmith calls Ledford an outstanding employee with a commitment to the district’s service-focused mission.

“Allison has a personal sense of values and ethics, and while remaining supportive of others, she does not compromise defined principles of right and wrong, good or bad,” Kleinsmith says. “Allison understands the importance of public trust as well as the trust of teachers, staff and her supervisors.

“She establishes and maintains positive, trusting relationships with those she comes in contact with. It is evident that she enjoys others and works to build caring, supportive relationships.”
