Startup Corner: Amy Blansit, Pur Colur LLC dba Solely Jolie

Posted online
Minimally viable product …
Solely Jolie is a makeup-clearing palette that uses an innovative, water-free method to clear makeup brushes of unwanted makeup, dirt and oil. This water and chemical-free process allows makeup brushes to last longer and leave skin feeling fresher.

Problem solving …
I realized I was using my hands and bathroom counter to clean my makeup brushes in order to use multiple shades of makeup. My hands were stained, my counter was filthy, and I knew I was spreading germs. One day, my brush accidently rubbed across a surface (similar to the palette I developed) and I saw an instant solution that needed to be explored.

Best advice …
A small idea is always worth discussing.

Seed money …
I have personally funded the launch to this point, which is why it has been a slow process. The next growth step is marketing and connecting with distributors.

Hurdles …
Production. I have worked with Ormsby Group for assistance with production of the product. We tried to have the product made and packaged in the United States, but we encountered strategic issues and found it was not cost effective. We explored looking at production outside of the U.S. where language barriers became an issue.

Next phase …
The distribution growth stage presents new hurdles in logistics and the many processes included in storing, shipping and managing the product as demand grows. The next phase includes hiring staff to market, manage and distribute, so I can continue overseeing from a supervisory and visionary position – which is my strength.

Worst advice …
You must have a professional and exhaustive business plan before launching an idea, product or business.
