Sun Solar CEO targets state Senate seat

Sun Solar LLC CEO Caleb Arthur announced his campaign for Springfield’s open 30th District state Senate seat at a July 22 Greene County Republican Party event. Bob Dixon, elected in 2010, is ineligible for re-election due to term limits.

Arthur leads the fastest-growing company in southwest Missouri after recording 888 percent revenue growth between 2014 and 2016, according to Springfield Business Journal’s 2017 Dynamic Dozen awards coverage in May. The residential and commercial solar installation firm reported $23.8 million in revenue last year.

“I have lived in Missouri all of my life. I have built businesses and employed people all across Missouri,” Arthur said in a news release announcing his Senate bid. “But I chose Springfield to raise my family and build the headquarters of my company. I love what southwest Missouri has to offer and the people that reside here. That is why I am running for state Senate. I want nothing more than to represent the area I love, help the schools that will educate my children, invest in the police and public safety that keep my family safe, and rebuild the infrastructure that my family uses every day.”

Also interested in the 30th Senate district is Rep. Kevin Austin (R-Springfield), who confirmed to the Springfield News-Leader in May that he’ll run for that office.

With headquarters at 1900 W. Sunset St., Ste. C-120, Sun Solar employs roughly 120 people and operates offices in Columbia, Houston and Olathe, Kansas. The company had opened an office in South Carolina last year.

Arthur is a member of the National Rifle Association, Gun Owners of America and the National Federation of Independent Business, according to the release, and his company holds membership in the Springfield, Ozark, Nixa and Republic chambers of commerce. He volunteers at the Springfield pro-life organization Pregnancy Care Center.

“I am tired of politicians trying to manage and regulate things they know nothing about,” he said. “It is time that Springfield elects someone who embraces freedom, understands innovation, and will fight to make government work better for less money.  I have the right experiences to get the job done.”

CalebArthurMo.com lists eight key issues for Arthur: education, public safety, life, taxes, jobs/the economy, gun rights, health care and energy. In the health care section, it states, “Caleb opposes a replacement plan for Obamacare – instead he’ll fight for a Missouri solution.”
