Springfield names interim HR director

Posted online
Springfield City Manager Greg Burris selected an interim human resources director to replace the municipal government’s long-time leader in that department.

Darla Morrison’s appointment is effective tomorrow. She succeeds Sheila Maerz, who is retiring after holding the position for 18 years. Her last day is today, according to a news release.

Morrison, the city’s senior human resources coordinator, has worked in Springfield’s HR department since 1991. In her current role, she supervises and manages the department’s employment, training and classification division.

"In addition to her knowledge and experience in human resources, Darla has built strong relationships throughout the city’s workforce that will serve her and the city well," Maerz said in the release.

The city’s HR director is responsible for employment, classification, salary and benefits administration, payroll, employee relations, training and development, labor relations, safety and workers’ compensation.
