Springfield banker takes over BancorpSouth’s Missouri operations

Posted online
Tupelo, Miss.-based BancorpSouth Inc. (NYSE: BXS) promoted Springfield banker Jay Titus to lead the company’s Missouri operations.

Titus, who has worked for the banking company since 2008, started as president of BancorpSouth’s Missouri division in the fourth quarter, according to a news release provided last week to Springfield Business Journal.

With the promotion, Titus is now in charge of BancorpSouth’s two Missouri markets of Springfield and St. Louis. The company operates six branches in the Queen City and one in Clayton, near St. Louis.

Titus retains the title of Springfield market president, which he gained in 2013 when then-market President Dave Kunze retired.

“When he retired, I took over his responsibilities for Springfield as the market president and then with the plan that I’d eventually take over the Missouri division,” Titus said this morning. “I wear two hats. It’s just basically a title change for me and taking on some additional responsibilities.”

As Missouri division president, Titus said he would focus on growing BancorpSouth’s Show-Me State operations, though no new branches currently are in the works.

Officer promotions
Four other local executives recently moved to new positions within the company.

Brent Baldwin and Casey Pyle were named executive vice presidents of the Springfield division, according to a separate news release.

Pyle added the position to his role as senior lender, and Baldwin was promoted from his role as senior vice president.

The company also promoted Josh Sapp to senior vice president and Nickie Bland to assistant vice president, according to the release.

“Once a year, we do officer promotions,” Titus said.

BancorpSouth also hired Eric Lankford, formerly of Regions Bank, as vice president.

The Mississippi-based company reported 2015 profits of $127.5 million, a 9 percent increase.

BXS shares were trading at $19.43 as of 10:53 a.m., compared to a 52-week range of $19.11 to $27.23.
