Mercy to break ground on $19M Branson clinic

Posted online
Nearly three years after receiving Branson Board of Aldermen approval for a planned development, Mercy Springfield Communities plans to break ground next week on a $19 million clinic near Cox Medical Center Branson.

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled May 2 for the roughly 32,000-square-foot, one-story multispecialty clinic at State Highway 248 and U.S. Highway 65. Mercy spokesman Brad Haller said construction would start in late summer and take around 18 months to complete.

“We need to expand our services in Branson. We need more space first and foremost,” Haller said, noting the new facility would replace an existing family medicine clinic and urgent care center nearby.

The planned clinic would be built at the site of the former Branson Inn, which was demolished in summer 2013 in preparation for the development. Mercy also plans to demolish the former Oak Ridge Boys Theatre at the site to make way for the clinic.

When proposed in 2013, Mercy had planned to build a 60,000-square-foot, $30 million clinic.

“It’s gone through several different phases and designs and just getting it right has been a priority,” Haller said, noting the health system has met with community stakeholders to determine their needs.

He said the clinic would include Mercy Virtual services allowing customers to speak with specialists throughout the St. Louis-based health system’s territory via webcams and the Internet.

At the groundbreaking next week, Haller said an announcement would be made related to Herschend Family Entertainment Corp. co-founder Pete Herschend’s involvement in the project. Haller declined to provide further details.
