Evangel business department raises $1M through 26 donors

The Evangel University business department exceeded its $1 million goal for endowed scholarships, with the majority of donations coming from only 25 people and one organization.

Launched in August 2012, the Legacy Fund campaign sought to reach its $1 million goal in five years. Organizers collected commitments of $1.02 million in three years, according to a news release.

“Our goals are to reward exceptional performance, build a strong relationship with our students and help them see the value of alumni support,” business department Chairman Bernie Dana said in the release.

The campaign called on alumni and friends of the school to donate $25,000 apiece.

Daniel Coryell, corporate community controller at TLC Properties, and his family were among the first to commit at that level.

“I asked my family to join me in being Legacy Partners in this campaign to express our confidence in the future of Evangel’s program,” Coryell said in the release.

The funding would provide scholarships to students seeking degrees in accounting, business education, finance, management, marketing, and nonprofit business and social enterprise.
