While Branson Convention Center ended 2015 with a net loss, it improved its bottom line by 93 percent compared to the previous year.
The city-owned convention center yesterday reported to the Branson Board of Aldermen a net loss of $77,102 last year, which compares to a $1.1 million net loss in 2014.
Revenue improved 27 percent to $4.6 million in 2015 from $3.6 million the previous year, according to the
board’s agenda.
Managed by West Conshohocken, Pa.-based SMG, the center held 2015 events for groups including Conklin Co., the Missouri Rural Water Association, the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Branson Collector Car Auction.
The center has posted net losses every year since opening in August 2007.
It has been recognized as a loss leader, meaning the center attached to a Hilton hotel isn’t profitable but drives revenue elsewhere. A 2011 study found the center’s annual economic impact was roughly $16 million.
