Target aims to start selling alcohol for the first time

Posted online
A planned store location for Target Corp. (NYSE: TGT) near Chicago’s Navy Pier will be the first in the company’s chain to sell alcohol.

A company spokeswoman said the design is localized to the Windy City’s tourist destination. No announcements for similar offerings at the company’s other 1,799 stores have been made.

Grocery store chains including Whole Foods, Hy-Vee, Wegmans and Shop Rite have added drinking and dining options in recent years. Market research consultants see Target’s expansion as a move to catch up with competitors, according to Fortune.
