St. Louis-based Express Scripts is partnering with Imprimis Pharmaceuticals, a company offering a lower cost alternative to a Turing Pharmaceuticals drug whose price has jumped dramatically this year.
Express Scripts and Imprimis Pharmaceuticals want to offer a compounded formula at $1 per capsule to treat toxoplasmosis in patients who have HIV, who are pregnant or who have weakened immune systems.
In September, Turing increased the price of Daraprim to $750 per pill from $13.50.
The alternative from Imprimis could become available to Express Scripts patients as early as this week.
