Democrat asks for probe of Mnuchin’s ‘Lego Batman’ plug

U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Oregon, is calling on the top U.S. ethics officer to probe Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin's recent plug of "The Lego Batman Movie."

Mnuchin helped finance the film.

“I’m not allowed to promote anything I’m involved in,” Mnuchin said at a Friday event hosted by Axios. “So I just want to have the legal disclosure; you’ve asked me the question, and I am not promoting any product. But you should send all your kids to ‘Lego Batman.’”

The movie was produced by a film company Mnuchin founded - Ratpac-Dune Entertainment.

Wyden said Mnuchin has not provided any evidence to support his promise to divest his financial interests in the company within four months of his confirmation. He was confirmed on Feb. 13.
