Amazon posts 8th straight quarter of net profits

Amazon.com reported first-quarter net income of $724 million, marking the eighth-straight quarter of positive net profits.

The latest earnings compared with $513 million a year earlier.

Sales increased 22.6 percent to $35.7 billion.
