Ozark school board extends superintendent’s contract

The Ozark R-6 School District Board of Education unanimously voted to extend Superintendent Kevin Patterson’s contract.

The extension means Patterson is approved to work through the 2019-20 academic year, according to a news release. The superintendent started with the 2013-14 academic year and a salary of $135,000. He now earns $152,972, said Ozark schools spokeswoman Casey Owens. Patterson’s future salary will be negotiated after increases for teachers.

“The commitment of Patterson is very evident,” board President Patty Quessenberry said in the release. “The impact he has made in this district is proven by staying focused on our mission, ‘Student Dedicated Every Day, Student Driven in Every Way.’”

Patterson’s now three-year contract is the best offer a school board can make under Missouri law, Ozark officials say.

The school board evaluated Patteron’s employment using three quality indicators from the Missouri Department of Elementary & Secondary Education:
    •    implementation of the district’s vision, mission and goals;
    •    execution of effective instructional programs; and
    •    use of best practices to increase knowledge and skills districtwide.

The board specifically pointed to Patterson’s strength in the long-range planning process, according to the release.

Patterson is now completing his 30th school year with the district, having previously worked in administrative positions, as well as a math and computer science teacher and football coach.

Earlier this year, the Springfield Public Schools Board of Education also extended Superintendent John Jungmann’s contract through the 2019-20 academic year.
