Neighbor’s Mill Bakery & Cafe
Nabors Brown LLC owners Clif and Lauren Brown opened a Springfield store Jan. 18 for their Harrison, Ark.-based Neighbor’s Mill Bakery & Cafe at 1435 E. Independence St., Ste. 110, in Paige Reese Plaza. Lauren Brown, the daughter of founders Mike and Karin Nabors, said the company’s second location totaling 5,565 square feet is leased from Paige Reese LLC for undisclosed terms. The bakery, which has its own gristmill, prepares 25 kinds of American hearth-style bread priced $6-$8 per loaf. In addition to other baked goods like breakfast pastries, the cafe sells $7-$9 sandwiches, as well as coffee, soups and salads. Of Neighbor’s Mill’s 55 employees, Brown said 20 work full time and a few more positions are still being filled. Hours: 7 a.m.–8 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 720-4162. Equality Healthcare LLC
Former CoxHealth Family Medicine associates Drs. Shelby Smith, Teresa Troy and Mark Chambers opened Equality Healthcare on Dec. 23 at 420 W. College St., Ste. 100. Smith said the direct primary care provider leases 3,000 square feet on the lower level of the College Station parking structure from The Shoppes at College Station LLC for undisclosed terms. Equality Healthcare does not bill insurance and instead operates on a monthly membership basis, specializing in acute and women’s health care, newborn and pediatric care, wellness education and chronic disease management. Smith said each doctor would handle a maximum of 600 patients. Monthly memberships range from $30 for individuals 21 and younger to $150 for a family of four. Other services, such as physicals and minor skin procedures, are included in the membership. The clinic also does lab work through Quest Labs and sells generic prescription medications at a reduced cost. Hours: 8 a.m.–5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Phone: (417) 633-7020. Smokin’ Bob’s BBQ
After three years operating a food truck, Bob Craver opened a brick-and-mortar store Jan. 15 for Smokin’ Bob’s BBQ. At 3309 E. Sunshine St., he said the restaurant was a natural progression from 20 years of hobby barbecuing to his foray into the food business in January 2013 at the SGF Mobile Food Park. He declined to disclose startup costs or lease terms for the 1,900-square-foot space in a recently renovated multitenant building owned by Goodwin Family Partnership LP, according to Greene County Assessor records. Menu items include $6-$7 brisket, chicken or pork sandwiches and up to $20 for a full rack of ribs. Craver said the flavor profiles of most meats are vinegar-based, similar to Carolina-style barbecue. With seating for 40, the restaurant employs two full-time and two part-time workers. Hours: 11 a.m. until sold out Monday through Saturday. Phone: (417) 720-4925.
