Aldi to open first Nixa store this month

Discount supermarket chain Aldi Inc. has scheduled an opening date this month for a $2 million store in Nixa, its first in the city.

The 17,800-square-foot store, 310 N. Old Wilderness Road, is slated to open to the public Sept. 23, according to a news release and information gathered by Springfield Business Journal.

The 72nd store in Missouri and one of three in the Springfield area, Columbus, Kan.-based Crossland Construction is wrapping up work as general contractor for the project, which was designed by Narramore Associates Inc. of Greenville, S.C.

The Nixa store features high ceilings, natural lighting and green building elements, including recycled materials and energy-saving refrigeration and light bulbs.

Aldi plans to open 130 new stores each year over the next several years. It currently has over 1,400 U.S. stores in 32 states, according to the release.
