With over 30 years of service in the community, Republic Services of the Ozarks is proud to have a long history with the City of Springfield. Republic employs 120 residents who live in Springfield and the surrounding communities. Serving their customers goes beyond handling their recycling and waste needs. At Republic, service is about being a good neighbor in the communities where you live, work and raise your family. Locally, they support community organizations such as the Springfield United Way, St. Jude Dream Home, Isabel’s House, Care to Learn, among others.

In addition, Republic has made local investments in environmental sustainability. The Company implemented an all-in-one recycling program that recycles 8 million pounds of material annually to reduce waste, built a transfer station to reduce truck traffic and deployed compressed natural gas (CNG) trucks to improve air quality and reduce noise.

As an industry leader in recycling and non-hazardous solid waste services, Republic’s 33,000+ employees serve over 14 million customers nationwide every day. They are guided by a focus on our Blue Planet™ – and their responsibility to protect the earth for future generations.

The Company has been steadily building on its industry-leading sustainability platform, as demonstrated by its “A List” rankings in the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) 2016 Global Climate Change  Reports and inclusion in the Dow Jones Sustainability North America and World Indices. Republic was also recently named a World’s Most Ethical Company.

To highlight a few areas where Republic is making investments:

Recycling Capabilities: While a number of factors have affected the recycling model in the U.S. in recent years, the consumer demand for effortless recycling programs has never been greater. Republic collects and processes roughly 5 million tons of recyclables per year at their 67 recycling centers nationwide, and is hard at work growing their recycling capabilities in several markets across the country.

Renewable Energy: In many cases, landfills create a renewable energy source. With their energy partners, Republic harnesses energy from yesterday’s waste and converts it to meet tomorrow’s energy needs. They currently operate 69 landfill gas-to-energy projects across the country, which together, generate enough renewable energy to power 250,000+ homes.

Sustainable Facilities: Republic’s commitment to sustainable practices extends throughout their operations and into their facilities. When they build new facilities, they adhere to the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design standards. This includes using sustainable, recycled or reclaimed materials to facilitate energy and water conservation, as well as design principles to enhance employee and guest comfort. With these standards at the forefront of their facility projects, they make work spaces more environmentally responsible and comfortable for everyone.

Safety is Top Priority: As the operator of the 8th largest vocational fleet in the country and with an industry-leading safety record, safety is the foundation of Republic’s business, and the cornerstone upon which the Company’s initiatives and programs are built. Day-in and day-out, they keep safety top-of-mind, providing peace of mind to customers and employees alike.

With their long history serving this great community, Republic remains committed to the City of Springfield and to providing superior service to its customers while advancing the City’s recycling and sustainability goals.
