ESC Consulting Engineers: Not Your Typical Engineering Firm

ESC Consulting Engineers likes to make it clear that they aren’t a traditional engineering firm. Started in the basement of its founder, Eugene Bybee in 1988, ESC Consulting Engineers has become the go-to engineering firm for industrial chemical process, food process, and pharmaceutical process facilities. They offer complete process and industrial engineering, and automation solutions for a wide variety of clients in these industries.

“Several of our clients’ operations and products are produced in very controlled environments that require capabilities and understanding of food process and sanitary design,” says President/CEO Scott Bybee. “We pride ourselves in staying current with the latest technologies and equipment utilized in these processing facilities.”

The basic structure of ESC is innovative and unique. There are few firms that have the capability to design a food processing facility from the ground up, all the way through production and startup. The few firms that have these capabilities are much larger than ESC and tend to be unable to deliver the responsiveness and personal care that ESC is known for.

Some of ESC’s key capabilities include:

Mechanical/Process Engineering: 3A and USDA compliance, food process designs with CIP capability, Mixproof valves, HEPA filtered/Clean Room HVAC, viscous fluid handling and processing, aseptic systems, AutoCAD Inventor;

Electrical engineering: control panel design, explosion-proof and intrinsically safe design, arc-hazard modeling, AutoCAD Electrical;

Automation: Allen-Bradley/Rockwell automation controls, Siemens controls, S-88 compliant programming, Red “Safety” PLCs, process trending/data reporting, integrated networking solutions;

Civil Engineering: storm water designs and prevention plans, rail designs, AutoCAD Civil 3D;

Structural Engineering: building structures and envelopes, sanitary/washdown rooms, walls, and structures.

What really sets ESC apart is the dedication to be a true partner with clients. “Our partnering approach is a project delivery process in which we work directly with our clients and the construction team in a cooperative effort to proactively lead the quality, cost, and time issues of a project throughout the scoping, design, construction, and startup phases,” says Bybee.

This dedication to relationship building doesn’t stop and start with the major corporations with whom ESC partners. “While we absolutely value the relationships we have with our corporate clients, it’s really the relationships that we cultivate with the people who work for our clients,” says Andy Snider, Chief Operations Officer. “We really care about them at an individual, personal level and strive to serve them in a way that will make their lives better.”

ESC is also committed to community involvement.  In addition to tracking normal revenue and profit goals for the company, ESC has established aggressive yearly targets for revenue donated to local charities and for the number of hours of company funded community service work. These targets are reviewed on a weekly basis to make sure that the company is on track for its community involvement goals.

This unique and personal approach seems to be working. ESC currently enjoys a 99 percent repeat customer rate. After more than 25 years, ESC continues to serve industrial, food process, and pharmaceutical clients while building lasting relationships with partners, clients, and the community.
