While debate continues over who will be the next speaker of the House, a petition was filed by four Republican lawmakers to force a vote on a measure to revive the charter of the U.S. Export-Import Bank.
Dubbed a discharge petition, the paperwork – which includes the required signatures of at least 218 members – is designed to overcome opposition from some conservatives. The House vote is tentatively set for Oct. 26.
According to
Springfield Business Journal archives, the bank’s reauthorization bill was co-sponsored by Sen. Roy Blunt, R-Mo., and supported by Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo. Locally, the federal program has helped generate $60 million in international sales by a dozen area manufacturers.
